Meet Bamboo, the planet’s #1 oxygen-maker!12.15.07

Did you know that bamboo trees are more beneficial to the atmosphere in terms of oxygen production, than regular trees? They produce 35% more oxygen than them and “eat” a lot more CO2 than trees. For example, 1 hectar of bamboo consumes 62 tons of CO2/year, while 1 hectar of young forest consumes only 15 tons of CO2/year! See it for yourself in the chart below:

Top 10 Most Polluted Cities in The World10.29.07

Photos of the dirtiest cities of the world. Example of how people do not protect the surrounding nature
top 10 most dirties cities in the world
Chernobyl, Ukraine Chernobyl is famous for its long list of pollutants: uranium, plutonium, radioactive iodine, cesium-137, strontium and other heavy or radioactive metals. The amount of radiation leaked was 100 times the levels released in Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Chernobyl’s 135,000 citizens have been evacuated, and there is a 19-mile exclusion zone where no one lives. It is hard to get dirtier that that. Click here to continue…

5 minutes for your Earth (or How To Be An Environmentalist)10.19.07

Environment is the nicest thing to say. Most environmentalists are only in spoken and written mode environmentalists. Like all fundamental groups, the environmentalist (like you and me) is a kind of person you can talk about all the recent pollution news, the recent enviro-cars, hybrid or electric, the latest CO2 measurements and the ozone hole above the North Pole. Or above the United States.

When I was 9, there were some cartoons broadcasted on the TV, called “Captain Planet”. I watched the full series, never missed an episode and by that time I didn’t know a thing about the environment. Maybe you did watch it, too. All I knew then was that oily duck swimming in the ocean flooded by Iraqi oil, and Michael Jackson’s “Heal the world”. That’s all.

But that’s not the end of it. Click here to continue…

Study: Air Humidity Linked To Global Warming10.11.07

English researchers released Wednesday that human activities such as burning oil, coal and producing CO2 in excessive quantities through by whatever means not only heat the Earth’s surface, but they also increase humidity in the atmosphere whose air we all breathe.

In less than 30 years the humidity at the surface of the planet rose about 2.2%.

They sustain that this sudden rise in the level of humidity will be harmful to people, as more and more will suffer from heat stress. It will also intensify the power of the oceanic winds, the power of tropical storms.

Lead researcher Nathan Gillett of the Climate Research Unit at the University of East Anglia, told AFP that Earth’s humidity levels will increase by 10 percent by 2100. Click here to continue…
